So on rare occasion I actually get crafty with something other then flowers. And one of those crafty things I do is make Christmas wreaths out of colored glass balls. I really love making these especially when I get to use fun colors that aren't necessarily Christmas colors. Here are two wreaths I made the other day. The line, Ivy & Aster was started by two best friends who dreamed of their wedding dresses as girls and turned that dream into a business. I really like how simple the dresses and accessories are. Well I have some very exciting news to share! I am working very hard on getting a whole new web site and blog up and running. Don't worry, this address will be forwarded to the new site, but when it is up and running be sure to re-bookmark it! I am so excited about it, I just can't stand it. The new design is so amazing and the pictures are going to be huge and tons of them. But for now I am working on getting everything all categorized. Who would have known what an exhausting process it is to sit in front of a computer all day!?! I think this picture illustrates how I feel, I just wish I was this glamorous when tired!

I am sure you can imagine the sheer amount of weddings I look at everyday, so it really takes a lot for a picture or a whole wedding to jump out at me. Well, I have found my new favorite photographer, Stephanie Williams. One of the things I really like about her is how she shoots the wedding rings. She really gets creative with her placement, and I love it. I get so tired of seeing the same ring shots all the time, her work is just so creative.

Ohhhhhh how I love this wedding from Stephanie Williams Photography. It is such a great vintage wedding, but as a florist, I love all of the flowers they used. By no means to you have to stick with the same arrangement on each table, and this wedding shows just that. It is way more fun to use different flowers and containers to create fun looks and different textures. And all the different lanterns, I just love lanterns!

Well the snow has fallen and it is time to get in the mood for some winter weddings. I have 2 in the next few months and I can't wait to share them with you. I always think it is fun to change up your Christmas decorations from year. For example going very traditional one year and more elegant another year. Well it only took me two days to get to my thanksgiving vacation and two days to get home. I braved delayed planes, broken landing gear, a man with a heart attack someplace over Kansas and a plane without heat. But despite all that I am home and ready to get the holidays going. We will be decorating houses everyday this month and I am sure I will be permanently covered in glitter, but I am strangely excited! So let the fun begin!!

A Fall Wedding Inspiation Shoot

I gave you a couple sneak peaks last week, as well as our inspiration board, and now here are the pictures! I am so happy how they all turned out. Hillary Maybery and I had talked forever about doing a shoot like this, and finally our schedules worked out. We were so lucky to have newly weds Stephanie and Zac act as our models, and Zac was such a sport! In addition we collaborated with a few other local vendors that made this shoot happen. I have featured a few cakes on this blog by Amy Anderson, but this is the first pictures I have gotten of her fantastic wedding cakes. Also my mother Terry, who owns Bellissimo was nice enough to not only let us take items out of her store but come and help style the shoot. Jamilynn from Vertu did Stephanie's hair and make up, Suzy, owner of Deja Vu, allowed us to take out the fox stole as well as vintage jewelry, and finally Max Monahan captured it all on film.

As for my part, I of course did the flowers, and I was so excited to get lucky and get peonies for the pictures. Its a rare thing to see this time of year, but with all the other fall flowers they looked great. I loved doing this photos shoot and Hillary and I have decided to do more, so if you have a great idea for a shoot let me know and maybe we will turn it into reality! And as always, thanks everyone for all the help it turned out better then I could have imagined.

Last weekend I told you about this fall wedding, and now I have some pictures from the event. This wedding was a big one, about 400 people, and yet strangely it was the easiest wedding of the whole summer. The weather was a perfect 80 degrees and all the trees were changing colors. The bride and groom, Jen and Cody, were so great to work with, and I know I say this every time, but they are the nicest people ever!!

The wedding took place at a local house here in the valley and this property seems like it was built for weddings. The ceremony behind the house over looked this big valley of aspen trees that were just starting to turn colors. It was simply beautiful, and it helps that the bridesmaids were all stunning in their sage green dresses.

The rest of the evening took place on the other side of the house under a tent, but in the middle of a mini apple orchard! Dinner was fantastic and this group of people know how to party. They danced all night to a talented DJ, who knew just the perfect songs for this diverse group of people.

Jen and Cody, I hope you are having a great honeymoon, and thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your big day and for getting to meet your family. And Jen a big huge thanks for trusting me to the decor I thought would be best for the property and this time of year. Fall flowers are my favorite and I got my fair share of them on this wedding!

Well tomorrow is officially the biggest wedding of the summer. And I have to say I am super excited about the decor. We are using all fall colored flowers, autumn foliage, and tons of pumpkins. And the setting couldn't be any better, the house the wedding is at is surrounded by apple trees and overlooks a big valley of aspen tress all turning yellow and orange. Creighton and Kelly's wedding was a very special one for me. I am very luck to have been friends with these guys for a long time, so when they asked me to help plan their wedding and do their flowers, I was more then happy to do it. The wedding took place at the Elkhorn Golf Course and the reception followed at the restaurant there. The entire day was fun and beautiful, and let me tell you, these people know how to party. I thank Hillary Maybery for the pictures on this wedding, but also this wedding wraps our summer wedding season together. Thank you Hillary, Kristin and Max for a great summer!!!

I am so happy to announce that Amy, my amazing manager and good friend, has started her own cake making business. And if the sample cakes I have seen and ate so far, are any indication of her talent, she is going to be one busy woman!! Very soon I will have lots of pictures of the cakes she is working on now. As a result of the new adventure into baking, we have been talking about cakes a lot around here, we have also been looking at a lot of other people's cakes. Real Wedding: Morgan and Bray, Part 3

So here we go with the finale of the pictures! Time for the party, the food and flowers! When Morgan and I talked about what she wanted the party to feel and look like, she explained that she wanted it to be like a really fun cocktail party. And she wanted the crisp look of white flowers, white tablecloths, and white furniture. So that is what we gave her. Lets just start with the food, Judith McQueen did a fantastic job with it. The plan was not to have a sit down dinner, but to have the night be filled with very heavy appetizers. So people got more then enough to eat and drink, but also go to be way more social.

Next up the setting. The entire wedding and reception was held on an empty lot, that was owned by Morgan's dad. Lots of green grass and right on a big pond. It was a perfect setting to have a clear tent. And when you have a clear tent it is always fun to hang things in it, and that is just what my staff and I did. You can see the hanging paper lanterns and then when it got dark, we also hung almost 200 votive candles too.

And last but not least the party and the people. I loved this guest list, mainly because it was filled with some of my very favorite brides and grooms from past years, it was pretty special. In addition, my favorite band Marmalade Hill played, and we were lucky enough to have a special guest appearance from the world famous Dano and the Nobodies (a Ketchum favorite). The guests danced the night away at when all the festivities ended they headed north to Whiskey's, to continue the fun.

I am sure that by the sheer amount of posts I have done on this wedding, you can tell how much I enjoyed this one. Morgan and Bray I thank you both so much, and I can't wait to tell you the behind the scenes stories! And I can't wait to meet that new little baby boy, as soon as you come to visit!!! Last but not least, thank you Hillary for all of the great pictures of this wedding and all of our weddings.

Well you saw the rehearsal dinner yesterday, today were going with the wedding party, and tomorrow the party. So first and foremost we have to start with the dress. Morgan wore my favorite Vera Wang of all time. And she look amazing in it! As for the boys, they all looked so handsome in Collared Greens ties, and all of the girls were stunning in J Crew dresses. Hillary Maybery captured all of these details perfectly. But the best part of this entire wedding party, is that they are the most fun group of people ever!!

Real Wedding: Morgan and Bray, Part 1

I know I say this just about every time, but I LOVE this couple!!! They are so much fun, easy to work with, and above all really great people. Their wedding was so fun and had so many great details, that I feel I need to break this up into 2 or 3 parts. First off, we are going to start with the rehearsal dinner. This was the craziest thing ever! The location was at the Hook Draw Saloon, which is basically this saloon way out a dirt road and up a canyon. You literally just go forever on a dirt road up this canyon, and then all of a sudden there is this giant saloon in front of you, its crazy. The wedding of Jennifer and Eric was a very beautiful family affair. The two of them were married surrounded by an intimate group of family and friends, in Eric's parents back yard. They were not only surrounded by their family and friends, but also by their own little family, of their puppy dogs Henry and Speedy. Everything was so beautiful, and even though the weather was a little iffy, the rain held off and made for some amazing photographs. The wedding was photographed by the talented Thia Konig, and catered by, my always favorite, caterer, Judith McQueen.

After the ceremony, everyone made their way around the pond, and into the house pasture were the dinner tents we set up. The ever resourceful Judith McQueen managed to create a multi course masterpiece of a dinner, by cooking out of the horse barn. Complete with two horses looking on.

Eric and Jennifer, thank you so much for putting all of your trust in me to plan your wedding and design all of your decor and flowers. You both were so wonderful to work with!

The pictures here are exactly what I mean when I tell my clients to make the wedding represent them. This couple chose things like the personalized egg shakers, as a fun take away gift because of the grooms love of music. Once again well done Martha....

With the feel of fall in the air, two weeks ago I was lucky enough to plan the wedding of Jack and Colleen. I not only do I thoroughly enjoy this couple, but I love their families too. In fact Jack's father Lou performed the ceremony, and it was one of the best ceremonies I have ever heard. And believe me I have heard a lot of them! The wedding and the reception took place North of Ketchum in Lake Creek, with the ceremony overlooking a big pond and the reception in a horse pasture, it was such a beautiful setting. Once again Hillary Maybery took the most gorgeous photos, take a look.....

Thank you Collen and jack for allowing me and my girls to be a part of your big day. I really loved working with both of you, and of course enjoyed your emails Colleen, they always made me laugh!

Real Wedding: Katie and Rick

Once again I had a fantastic wedding this past weekend. The weather was perfect, the location was spectacular, and the bride and groom were so much fun. I really enjoyed this wedding because we got to do a few things that I rarely get to do. Mainly we used the clear tent, which always looks cool in the mountains and we got to do fun free form arrangements in mason jars. Katie really wanted a wild flower feel and one that matched the landscaping of her mother's home.

The wedding took place at the Z Heart Ranch, the property owned by Katie's parents. Ck's Restaurant catered and as always the food was out of this world.

The party was great fun, the guests danced all night to the best band ever Marmalade Hill. Hillary Maybery, the talented photographer caught all of the great fun on film. And how cool is this clear tent??

Real Wedding: Vanessa and Dean

I'm going to bring out a wedding that took place 3 summers ago, and I want to do this because it is such an unbelievable and wonderful story. First let me give you some background. Vanessa and Dean are a great couple from Oregon, and they wanted to get married here in Sun Valley, over Labor Day weekend. Vanessa has been visiting here for years with her parents, so this place had very special meaning to her. Now this wedding was going to be a big one, potentially 500 people.

Okay so that all sounds wonderful and totally doable. Now here is the problem......about mid August, in the middle of a very dry summer, we had some lightning strike, in an area of our mountains called Castle Rock. This went from a small fire to a huge fire very fast, so big almost the entire town had to evacuate. Let me just show you what I am talking about, our talented wedding photographer Thia Konig captured everything perfectly....

So you can only imagine the bride and groom were a little nervous. In a nut shell here is what happened. The wedding location got evacuated two times, at which point we ran out of places to put a huge tent. So the Thursday before the wedding, Vanessa and Dean decided to call off the big wedding and just have a very small wedding for the people who had already arrived, about 30 people. We put up the tents in her mother's front yard and hoped for the best.

Now since we had decided to do this 2 days before the wedding, we were sitting on food and flowers for about 400 people. In an unbelievable act of generosity, Paul, Vanessa's father, asked Judith McQueen, the caterer to feed all of the local firemen. Let me tell you how happy those firemen were for an unbelievable meal.

The morning of the wedding arrived, and by some miracle the wind had shifted allowing us to have blue sky for the first time in almost 3 weeks. Vanessa and Dean wed in the backyard and had one of the most touching and memorable weddings of my career. I have to say that this wedding would never have happened without the hard work of That's Entertainment, Judith McQueen and Thia Konig. And of course to all the firefighters who came in from across the country to save our town, we thank you!! And now for the wedding...

Garth Brooks!

So I have a really good excuse for not having a posting today. Last night I got to see Garth Brooks perform here in our tiny town of Ketchum, Idaho. He performed live with our summer symphony and it was one of the coolest things I have every seen. It also helps that we were right up front and could see everything. I highly recommend to anyone, to try and get to Vegas to see this show! Back tomorrow with more wedding goodness!!

Check out this photo shoot from 100 Layer Cake. I love the entire look and the little details, like the ring box place cards, are so fabulous. One thing to remember when you are having a very small wedding: is the time to have fun with really great small details. But even for big weddings, the ribbon on the napkins would be a very nice and easy touch.
