Real Wedding: Buddy and Shay

The minute I met Buddy and Shay I knew I was going to have a great time planning and designing their wedding. I am not sure if there are two people better suited for each other. Buddy is an old school southern guy who loves tradition, and Shay is a local Idaho girl who is most happy hip deep in the river fishing. So you can just imaging that we were bringing two very different worlds together for this wedding. The wedding was held here in Sun Valley in Buddy and Shay's back yard, and people traveled from all over the country to get here.

One of the first thing I learned about Shay is that she is not a big fan of wearing dresses. However after a bit of a search she found just the perfect tea-length dress by Reverie. When she walked down the aisle with her father you could just see the love in Buddy's face.

The ceremony was held in the back yard with the Bald Mountain making the most beautiful back drop. After the ceremony the guest mingled and had a great food surprise waiting for them on the other side of the house. Buddy and Shay's world very much revolves around their dogs, so for the cocktail hour we had a life sized ice sculpture of one of their dogs made to be the centerpiece of the raw sea food bar.

After the ceremony the guests went into the tent for dinner. We filled the dinner tent with tons of trees and bushes to make it feel like an English garden, and topped the tent off with sparking chandeliers. For the entertainment, later in the evening, the guests were led down a flower filled path into the dancing tent, where the guest danced the night away under the summer sky.

Inspiration Board #10: An Apple a Day...

I am a big fan of using fruit with flowers for party decor. From using apples as name cards to candy apples for dessert, anything can be super fun. I have put together some apple pictures to show just what I mean. I hope you like......

Inspiration Board #9: Pretty in Pink

The fact that I haven't done a pink inspiration board yet really speaks to my self control, cause you better believe I have wanted to do one for a while. And just wait because the Valentine's posts might be a little out of control. But let's start slow with the Pretty in Pink board. Hope you like!click image to enlarge

Props to Martha

I am sure it comes as no surprise to anyone that I have a ton of gay friends. I am a florist and wedding planner after all. So when I saw that Martha Stewart featured this marriage in her "Real Weddings" section in the Winter 2010 issue, I was so excited. I certainly know a few couples who would love to have a ceremony just like this. And since this is my blog and I get to express my views, I have to say I can't wait until everyone in our country is equal and can have wonderful wedding just like this. I hope a change comes soon.
